If you are one of the Alexa owners, you have surely noticed a strange behaviour to the point where it simply makes you wonder – what’s happening here. As someone on Twitter once said regarding this: “There is a good chance I get murdered tonight”. Alexa, the Amazon’s virtual assistant has been known to suddenly change its behaviour to rather odd one. Back in January, it was already noticed that Alexa tends to suddenly speak without being woken up by a wake word. A few weeks ago, tech columnist Farhad Manjoo was first to write in New York Times, about how his Alexa startled him one night by screaming. During that time all across the Internet, bunch of stories showed up where people were making videos with Alexa starting to randomly making evil sounding laughter. So what is going on here?

Apparently, there was a glitch in the software that meant Alexa thought someone was saying “Alexa, laugh” when they actually hadn’t. Amazon decided to disable the feature, so now if you say “Alexa, laugh”, nothing will happen. However, if you say “Alexa laugh for me” he laugh will be something in between a demonically possessed child and an evil clown. Another interesting thing is that Alexa seems to change her mind from one minute to the next (as any other female) but if you ask her the first time about her favourite movie, she will come out with “It is hard to choose, but one of my favourites is ‘I, Robot’ “. If you don’t know which movie this is, you can only assume, and your assumption is probably correct.

Ever wondered what Alexa thinks about Amazon? If you ask her, she will give a description of the company who it was founded by, with the words “I love Amazon”. And no matter how hard you try to bait her into talking bad about Amazon or mentioning any Amazon’s rivals, she will come out with slightly passive aggressive reaction.

Another interesting thing to mention is that Alexa is recording everything you say and sends it back to Amazon. But it’s important to mention that she does this only when awake. Needless to say that this is still kind of worrying since there is no actual proof of Alexa NOT recording our conversation when she is not awake, that is why the best way to be safe for sure is to turn her off by unplugging her at the mains.

Alexa also never cries, as she is always “happy” and everyone know that constant happiness tends to lead to a sane and murder free life. No matter how intimidating this all might sound, there is no need to worry about it, yet. Luckily Alexa doesn’t have feet or hands so we are safe… For now.
