What can we learn from this?
Who would have known that the Internet would expand so fast and that entire online field would be completely different from just a couple of years ago. Well, it really doesn’t matter now when we have a whole range of extraordinary movies on hacking/computing/technology topics that give us such an enjoyable experience. You can learn a lot about technology, unknown situations and new terms, and primarily, you can learn how things work just by watching these movies.
Here is our list of the top 4 awesome movies dealing with this fantastic topic. So, grab some popcorn and sit back - it’s movie time!
1. Hackers (1995)
Released in 1995, the story tells of a young man named Dade who brought on a worldwide financial crisis by hacking into hundreds of computers on Wall Street and caused “the biggest crash in history”. He gets arrested for writing a computer virus, by the US Secret Service, and since it took place before he turned 18, he got off with a restraining order from any computer until he turns 18 as his punishment.
Years later, during his high school days, he continued with hacking and involved a couple of other brilliant kids from school. The main mission was to discover a trick to discharge a dangerous computer virus, and the Secret Service and evil genius behind the virus were the main obstacle.
What’s interesting about this film is that it is followed by a series of hacker battles that look so real and intense as the camera is physically moving through a monitor that makes it look really “futuristic”.
2. “23” (1998)
Based on a true story, this movie tells of a young hacker, Karl Koch, who was messed up with the chaotic world around him during the Cold War in Germany.
Threatened by the world and political affairs around him, the main character was inspired by his favorite novel “Illuminatus” and decided to start a discussion about conspiracy theories at first, and later, along with his friend David. Karl finds joy in hacking and breaking into government and military computers. The two of them get involved with a drug addiction and KGB, but besides hacking, the movie is also about money, addiction, and friendship.
3. Sneakers (1992)
Although it’s been more than 20 years since the movie was released, it gave us insight into some fundamental computing techniques. Some of the methods they use in the movie are still applicable today. This was the first Hollywood movie which dealt with the NSA topic.
The story is about a legal break-in team (led by Bishop - Robert Redford) who are hired to break into your bank in order to test its security systems. But what happens when the government agency asks them to do a job that is illegal instead? That’s what you’re about to find out!
4. Takedown (2000)
This is one of those movies that show people’s nature when they have power in their hands. By power, we mean, our personal information. It’s a great movie that makes us wonder how easily our identity could be stolen and what could happen after it’s gone. While we don’t think of it as a real danger, it could easily disappear in a second and without being physically attacked.
